This is a tea house that is a traditional Japanese house. The garden, the house is cozy, clean and well kept. The interior of the teahouse is the same as the old tatami mat room. We use handicrafts made of hand-made tissue boxes, etc. in the traditional Japanese way, where you can feel the skill of the owner.

Extremely busy but lovely tea experience and service.

Sweet and desert cafe in traditional japanese style.

Love this place. Nice Japanese sweets sets like zenzai (maccha, shiratama, anko), anmitsu (anko, fruits, kanten, syrup). Great tea house overlooking a classic Japanese garden. If you or your guests are one of these people who don't care too much for green tea or sweet beans they also have a nice coffee option, but it kind of missing the point ain't it?

This is a nice spot for a little of old Japan. The house is great, the staff warm and welcoming, and the macha wonderful. The Japanese sweets are good too. I recommend this place.

The best place to spend a good afternoon and taste delicious matcha

Small Japanese-style café that serves traditional Japanese sweets (zenzai, anmitsu, etc.) and coffee and tea (incl. Tea lattes). There's always a wait on weekends, particularly in the summer. But it's worth it to sit on the tatami floors gazing into the garden as you hide away from the heat and humidity. Personally, I like rainy days just as much as the sunny ones because the green of the garden becomes more vibrant.

Good food, not too sweet. Relaxing atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Really lovely place to take a break! We had the Matcha latte which was delicious. Drink came with a small red bean cookie/dessert. Depending on the time you’re there, it can be quite noisy. Lovely quiet place to enjoy your tea and the beautiful surroundings once the crowds are gone.

Stumbled into this place. You could get a taste of traditional Japanese garden and architecture, and of course, tea and dessert!

Traditional Japanese old style house. The set of selected tea and desert is quite cheap. Good place to visit to add on Tokyo attraction.

Nice traditional Japanese atmosphere (with many tourists). Quite overpriced and not that delicious. But the atmosphere overwhelms it.

Nice ambience and staff but my anmitsu had a weird taste :(

This place brings you to an alternate dimension where Tokyo is relaxed and free from hard work, where you can't hear traffic or construction, and the decorations are all handmade using traditional Japanese techniques. Well, except for the model train display in the showroom!

This little cafe is inside a traditional old style house, which already makes it an experience. The menu is quite small and consist mostly of coffee and green tea based drinks, but my favorite is the "shiro tama matcha" a sweet made of a base of hot green tea and asuki beans with little rice flour sticky balls, is really sweet and yummy. The only down side is that it can get quite crowded during the weekends, and since they only have a few tables you might need to wait for a while.

Wonderful place to escape the heat. Match a floats and shaved ice we're very good and the atmosphere was great!

Ordered anmitsu and kuromitsu au lait. Anmitsu had seasonal fruits and came with tea. Both were really good. For the food and ambience, the price is really value for money.

Truly Japanese experience; the outside, garden and inside of the house.Black honey with your tea, stunning sweets, sweet and friendly owner and a picture of the former emperor in casual tennis clothes, as he used to “hang†with the previous owners.A gem in Jiyugaoka NOT to be missed!!

I am slightly conflicted, drawing more attention to a place that was and is one of my favorite, profound retreats. It exists in a time bubble that is still intact when the place is quiet and uncrowded. My recommendation is to skip it if you see more than 15 pairs of shoes in the shoe area. The true spirit of the place will not be felt. If you can arrive at a time when there are fewer than 15 people you will experience something very rare. One of the best aspects of living in Jiyugaoka was having this place a short walk from our house. It is one of the three things I miss most about Japan.

Kosoan is a old traditional Japanese house made by wood, with a beautiful garden. Sitting on tatami in a big room decorated with various Japanese antiques like bowls, cups, dolls, swords and paintings, Kosoan offers various drinks and traditional sweets. The menu has photos and English translation.

The place is wonderful. Classic japanese tea room. A price you pay for a great service is worthed! They served a fruit, tea and coffee. I asked staff what is favorite menu, she said Matcha have a great taste, and also a fruit soup. I ask for that menu, they gave me 2 menus, oh my! It is heaven taste. Their staff can speak english very well, and can explain every menu in detail. They will serve you with good manner and clear explanation of what they serve.Maybe after 3 pm is a best place to go here. You just wait only for 10 minutes to get a seat here. No need a previous reservation. If you love classic theme, 10 minutes of wait is not long enough, the place will served you with good classic stuff, like a japanese doll, a set samurai, a great bamboo Japanese style and also Japanese garden that will make your waiting is comfort enough. It is one of best place to enjoy Japan in different way.

A nice traditional place to have great desserts @Kosoan My wife love the white glutinous rice ball in matcha soup, I tried the fruits with red bean and jelly. Ambience was top notch and time seems to slow down when you sat down on the tatami to enjoy the sweetness. Excellent place if you want to wind down and enjoy the moment. 10/10#sg #food #eating #foodreview #simonlew #meat #seafood #dinner #lunch #drink #foodforlife #meal #japan #tokyo #holiday #japanesefood #kosoan #desserts #redbean #matcha #å¤æ¡‘庵

À traditional place to drink à macha tea. You are in an other place, an other culture. It's a great moment to take, you can feel the 'kami' of the house. The service is great take care if you are not used to be on the floor, tatami, it could be difficult to stay confortable. The woman gave me a japanese tea to taste for free Aligato. You can visit the small garden.
Ali Kiki
Nice traditional place and dessert, Matcha is the best!!

I used to love this place so much before it became too popular with visitors! I remember sitting on the tatami by myself, there would be a few local people at the other tables; it was very peaceful! Last time I went, a big group of people were visiting, being quite loud and taking pictures the whole time they were in. It ruined my experience... Staff was always very friendly and helpful and their anmitsu was delicious!
